On the afternoon of November 9, 2018, the first Shanghai Academic Salon on Marketing Science was held in NYU Shanghai. This salon was jointly organized by Center for Data-Driven Managerial Decision Making, School of Management, Fudan University and Center for Business Education and Research, NYU Shanghai. Marketing scholars from NYU Shanghai (Yuxin Chen, Jin Huang, Dengfeng Yan and Dan Zheng), Fudan University (Yue Dai, Li Xiao and Xing Zhang), Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (Qi Sun, Li Wang and Fang Wu), Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance (Xinlei Chen, Ping Xiao), Shanghai Jiaotong University (Zibin Xu), and China Europe International Business School (Yi Xiang, Qi Wang) gathered on campus and shared their ideas about the cutting-edge studies of marketing science and quantitative marketing.
The salon was hosted by Professor Dengfeng Yan, the area leader of Marketing at NYU Shanghai. Five research projects were presented respectively by Professor Li Xiao from School of Management, Fudan University, Professor Zibin Xu from Antai College of Economics and Management, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Professor Ping Xiao from University of Technology Sydney Business School (visiting scholar of Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance), Professor Qi Sun from School of Business, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and Professor Jin Huang from NYU Shanghai.
These research projects adopt a wide range of quantitative methods such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, game theory, structural econometric model, causal inference based on natural experiment, and etc. The topics cover a lot of hot-spot marketing issues such as intelligent video ads, signaling theory, personalized pricing, channel expansion and consumer subsidy policy evaluation, consumer boycott of brands, observational learning and consumer information search. Discussions in the salon are candid and professional, with a lively and strong academic atmosphere. Participating scholars were all enjoying it with great pleasure.
Looking forward, scholars were all expecting to attend similar academic salons from time to time, aiming to promote academic exchanges among universities in Shanghai, especially for young scholars. Special acknowledgments were given by the scholars to School of Management, Fudan University and NYU Shanghai for their support of the salon. They are all very much looking forward to the next one.
